How to Color-Coordinate Your Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

Color-coordinated bridesmaids and groomsmen

So how can you nail down the perfect, ‘big day’ look for your entire wedding party? We’re here to help you do just that. Below are tips on how to color coordinate your bridal party with your groomsmen, and what not to forget when choosing the small details that make a big difference.

1. PICK A SUIT COLOR

One of the first rules for picking a suit color, aside from preference, is to make sure it fits the overall style and theme of your wedding. This includes taking into consideration the bride’s dress. But what about your accessories? A neutral color that goes with your suit is always a solid choice, but why limit yourself?

As with any wedding decision – when in doubt ask the bride. But if you want to get ahead, here are a few good ways to go when trying to coordinate your groomsmen with your bridesmaids.

2. Match Ties and Dresses

An easy and classic route to go is having the ties match the bridesmaid dresses exactly. If the dresses are blush, the ties are blush, and so on. This creates a more uniform look that will look pleasing to the eye and in pictures. This also works well if you want your bridesmaids and groomsmen to match and the groom to have a different look that stands out.

3. Incorporate Color-Family Ties

You’ve probably seen the trends of mismatched bridesmaid dresses, like ombre or similar neutral colors. Well, the same thing can be done with ties, as long as they’re going with the dresses and overall look of the wedding. Or, alternatively, matching ties that are a shade or two off from the dresses. If the dresses are lavender, the ties could be plum. The same goes for the groom’s tie versus the groomsmen’s ties. The groom does not have to match the groomsmen exactly.

4. Use Color Palette Ties

Another option that isn’t neutral or an exact match to the dresses is to go with a color that is a secondary color in the palette. Often color palettes will have two main colors and one or more other colors that come through in other elements, like flowers, decor, and accessories.

5. If Not Exact-Match, Avoid Colors That Clash

Choosing one of these colors still matches your theme without clashing with the dresses. For example, if your palette is teal and coral, the groomsmen could wear whatever color the bridesmaids aren’t or another color like gold or blush that might come up in your flowers and other decors.

6. Order Fabric Swatches

Whatever you decide to go with, stick to the palette that your bride carefully selected and you’re golden. If you’re looking for an exact match on color and material, make sure to take advantage of our free fabric swatch program. You can pick and choose up to 5 fabric swatches that you’d like to be delivered to your door, absolutely free. Get a feel for the color and fabric.

7. When in Doubt, Order a Free Home Try-On
