10 must-see South Carolina Wedding Venues

10 must-see South Carolina Wedding Venues

There are lots of fun tidbits of information regarding the ever-beautiful South Carolina, but unless you find yourself on a high-stakes game show or trapped in a trivia battle, you’ll most likely never need to know that the official state tree is the Palmetto or that good ol’ S.C. is home to a tiny town called Coward.

However, there is one little-known fact about South Carolina that might be worth knowing…

Some of the most amazing venues in the country can be found within its borders, and we’ve listed ten must see wedding venues in SC.

The Old Cigar Warehouse:Greenville

Breathtaking both inside and out, the Old Cigar Warehouse in downtown Greenville is ideal for large ceremonies and raging receptions. The enormous hall has faded brick walls and a lofty ceiling; meanwhile, strings of lights dangle gracefully from the rafters, casting a warm glow across the large room and creating the perfect atmosphere for a rustic Southern wedding.

The River House at Lowndes Grove PlantationCharleston

For those looking to wed in a smaller and more peaceful setting, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better location than the River House at the Lowndes Grove Plantation. Settled on the banks of the Ashley River, the quaint venue can only be reached through a private gated entrance, guaranteeing that any unwanted noise or guests will kept away—except for maybe a few chirping birds and the occasional dashing squirrel. So consider tying the knot under a canopy of oak trees (or, in the off-chance of a rain shower, from the shelter of the cozy River House)!

The Millstone at Adam’s PondColumbia

Built in the 1920s, the brick mansion at Adam’s Pond boasts of authentic hardwood floors, a plethora of roaring fireplaces, and a large screened porch, which has proven itself perfect for summer evening receptions after beautiful outdoor weddings. If you picture your guests laughing together as they skip rocks along the pond and sit around a fire as the chilly night air sets in, then look into celebrating your big day at Adam’s Pond.

The Westin Poinsett HotelGreenville

Designed and constructed in the 1920s, the Poinsett was once a booming hotel, hitting its peak at the end of World War II. Unfortunately, it gradually began to decline over the decades that followed and was finally forced to close its doors in 1987. For over ten years, the historic building remained vacant and decaying, until two ambitious developers swooped in and slowly restored the Poinsett to its former grandeur. Today, the classic hotel is thriving again, with its elegant style and sophisticated decor attracting guests (and wedding parties!) from across the globe. Plus, brides and grooms can share a romantic dance under the old Poinsett Hotel sign!

Old Sheldon ChurchYemassee

The Old Sheldon Church ruins are not only beautifully haunting, but their history is powerful, stretching back to a pre-Revolutionary War era. And while the centuries have taken their toll on the once-majestic brick cathedral, the skeletal walls and towering pillars still stand strong. So if you’re one for symbolism (or even just a lover of historic beauty), you can’t go wrong by beginning your journey at a site that has withstood the years and storms.

Twigs TempiettGreenville

Nestled in a lush and flourishing garden, Twigs Tempietto should be the go-to venue for those seeking a woodsy or environmentally themed wedding. Enhanced by gorgeous white canopy tents, vine-covered gazebos, and marble fountains, botanical beauty abounds at Twigs Tempietto!

Old Bay Marketplace & RooftopBeaufort

Calling all minimalists, we have found the perfect spot for you: a large and simple event room with neutral-colored walls and gorgeous hardwood floors. And while you’re free to indulge in all-out decorating, all this venue really needs is a few strands of lights (or some tall candles) and a pop of color here or there. As an added bonus, you’ll also have rooftop access, where your guests can enjoy drinks while overlooking the cozy town of Beaufort.

Sonesta Resort Hilton Head IslandHilton Head

This list wouldn’t be complete without a beachside venue, and as it turns out, South Carolina has a lot of options when it comes to getting married with the sand between your toes. However, we ultimately had to go with the Sonesta Resort at Hilton Head Island. Not only can you say “I do” on the hotel’s pristinely manicured beach as the waves lap onto the shore, but the stunning 4-star resort can provide luxurious accommodations for those who come to celebrate with you.

Woodlands MansioSummerville

Having a hard time deciding between an indoor, outdoor, or hybrid wedding? The Woodlands Mansion estate caters to all three! You can hold an elegant ceremony within the halls of the grand brick manor, enjoy a summer celebration on the green wedding lawn, or host a secluded service at the private Pavilion. Now the question is…which will it be?

Coleman Hall and Chapel: Pleasant

While undeniably beautiful, historic centers and fancy hotels are not for everyone, which is why our final South Carolina favorite is the Coleman Hall and Chapel: a faith-neutral venue that welcomes wedding parties of all backgrounds and preferences. The conventional chapel has old-fashioned wooden pews and bright red doors, while the nearby reception hall matches the style perfectly. This one’s for you, traditionalists!
